Cherry Eye Surgery

Cherry Eye Surgery for Dogs in Seattle

We treat third eyelid gland prolapse with the Morgan Pocket Technique—safe, effective, and performed with precision at Holly Vet Clinic.

What is Cherry Eye in Dogs?

Cherry eye occurs when the tear-producing gland of the third eyelid prolapses, creating a red bulge in the corner of your dog’s eye. While it may look alarming, it’s a common condition—especially in breeds like Bulldogs, Pugs, and Frenchies—and treatable with surgery.

  • Most common in young dogs under 2 years old
  • May affect one or both eyes
  • Left untreated, it can cause dry eye, irritation, or long-term vision issues

How We Fix Cherry Eye: The Morgan Pocket Technique

At Holly Vet Clinic, we use the Morgan Pocket Technique—a proven method to reposition the third eyelid gland while preserving its essential tear function. Unlike older techniques that remove the gland, this approach protects your dog’s long-term eye health.

  • The gland is tucked into a “pocket” within the eyelid
  • The pocket is secured with dissolvable sutures
  • Minimally invasive, fast-healing, and highly effective

I really appreciate the care and professionalism shown throughout the process. On top of that, the pricing was very reasonable compared to other clinics I researched. I highly recommend Dr. Yong to any pet owner looking for quality and compassionate veterinary care.”
